The most powerful Geminids meteor shower of the year - up to 150 flashes per hour - waits us this weekend.

It will peak on the night of December 13-14 around 2 a.m. local time.

The Geminids are not only one of the last, but also one of the most powerful meteor streams of the year. It surpasses even the August Perseids.

The peculiarity of the December starfall is that it is generated not by a comet, but by the asteroid Phaeton. Due to this, the particles burning in the Earth's atmosphere create unusually bright and multicolored flashes - red, blue, green, yellow and white. The color depends on the composition of the metals in the particles.

Falling stars are expected so much that Belarusians will forget about everything in the world. They could have forgotten. But the weather promises to let us down once again this winter. The main enemy of the starry sky - high cloudiness, judging by the forecasts, will spoil all the pleasure of the heavenly light show. But, as they say, sometimes just knowing is enough.
