After the spy scandal.
An employee of the Belarusian embassy in Moldova, presumably, has been declared persona non grata by the authorities in Chisinau. The information was confirmed by sources of the IPN agency, but so far there has been no official statement from the authorities.
The press bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when asked by IPN, did not confirm, but also did not deny this information. Several Telegram channels reported about the case in the morning.
It is not yet known what the exact reasons for the expulsion decision might have been. The incident comes a day after the former deputy head of Moldova's Information and Security Service (ISS), Alexandru Balan, who was detained in Romania, was questioned by prosecutors. He is accused of divulging state secrets related to Romania to officers of Belarus' KGB.
According to Romanian authorities, the suspect met twice in Budapest, Hungary - in 2024 and 2025 - with officers of Belarus' State Security Committee (KGB). There is a "reasonable suspicion" that during these meetings he passed secret information and received money for it.
Poland has also arrested a Belarusian spy and is preparing to expel a diplomat who "supported the aggressive actions of the Belarusian state against Poland." This was announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Tuesday, without revealing details.
The Czech Foreign Ministry on Monday also announced the expulsion of a Belarusian diplomat suspected of espionage.
