Ukrainian MP On Zapad-2025 Exercises: This Is Preparation For War

Narva, Daugavpils and Vilnius are in danger.

The "West-2025" exercise is causing alarm among military experts and politicians. There are growing warnings that under the cover of the maneuvers, Russia and Belarus may attempt to break through the Suvalki Corridor.

What are the real goals of the Kremlin and Lukashenko regime during these military exercises? This is the question Charter97.org asked the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the party "Servant of the People" Oleg Dunde:

- What their main speaker Dmitry Medvedev says is a direct threat to the European part of NATO. All this is very similar to the statements that supposedly Lithuania, Latvia and Finland are ready to attack Russia. In reality, all of this is preparation for a potential war.

- The Suvalka corridor has been called the Alliance's Achilles' heel. How do you assess the likelihood that this particular section could be the target of a military provocation?

- I assess the probability of an attack on the Suvalki corridor as zero. For one simple reason: this corridor has a peculiarity - it is a wooded and swampy area with poorly developed road infrastructure. It does not allow troops who would try to occupy this territory to take shelter anywhere. Accordingly, in the absence of shelter, such forces will be extremely vulnerable to air strikes.

We remember Putin's words, they like to use people as hostages. I will recall his phrase from March 1, 2014, when Russia occupied Crimea. At that time he publicly stated that he would "protect" the supposedly civilian population of the peninsula. The usual Soviet "hostage" tactics.

For the realization of an attack, Suvalki is not suitable. Much more likely targets for such provocations are settlements located near the borders of Belarus and Russia. These are Narva, Daugavpils and Vilnius.
