But these barbaric attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine must stop,” he said on Sunday, October 4, according to Deutsche Welle.
Zelenskyy Announced Defense Agreements with Germany
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced defense agreements with Germany. On the day of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv, “important agreements between Ukraine and Germany” will be concluded, aimed at expanding the defense capabilities of both Ukraine and all of Europe, he said.
“We must stop Russia together. Thank you to everyone who is helping,” he wrote on Telegram. The President of Ukraine noted that Germany “has consistently demonstrated leadership in protecting the lives of Ukrainian men and women from Russian attacks.”
“It is important that, during these difficult times, Germany stands by us—in support and in remembrance,” he emphasized. According to Zelenskyy, at the start of his visit, Merz paid tribute to the fallen defenders of Ukraine.
Mertza’s visit to Kyiv is taking place amid air raid sirens. He arrived in the Ukrainian capital by train on the morning of October 4 on an unannounced visit. A short time later, Russia launched another strike on the Northern Bridge across the Dnieper River in Kyiv.
