Belarusians Are Giving Up Alcohol And Potatoes

The diets of people in our country are changing.
Belarusians are drinking less alcohol and eating fewer potatoes, but they are consuming more meat. Details are provided by the National Statistical Committee.
Alcohol consumption in the country has declined in recent years. While it stood at 11.8 liters in 2020, it fell to 10.9 liters in 2025. The downward trend has continued over the past five years. An increase to 12 liters was recorded only in 2021.
Vodka is listed as the most popular alcoholic beverage, followed by low-alcohol beverages. Next come liqueurs and wines. Belarusians are least likely to choose cognac and brandy.
At the same time, Belarusians have started eating fewer potatoes. In 2020, per capita consumption of the root vegetable was 161 kilograms; in 2023, it was 162 kilograms; and in 2024 and 2025, it was 159 kilograms.
However, consumption of meat and meat products in the country is on the rise. In 2010, it was 84 kilograms, and in 2025, it reached 104 kilograms. As for dairy products, consumption declined in 2021 and 2022 to 237 and 238 kilograms, respectively, and then began to rise. By the end of 2025, it is projected to reach 255 kilograms.
Belarusians have started eating more vegetables, melons and gourds, as well as products made from them. According to 2010 data, consumption was 149 kilograms, and in 2025, it was 183 kilograms.
