The Winner Of The Nobel Prize In Literature Has Been Announced

The award will be presented to a poet.

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Canadian poet, essayist, and translator Anne Carson. The Swedish Academy in Stockholm announced the laureate’s name on October 8.

Carson teaches Ancient Greek and is known for blending poetry, prose, essays, and translations in her writing. One of her best-known books is the 1998 novel in verse *Autobiography of Red*, based on a Greek myth. Her works also include the essay *Eros Bittersweet*, the collection *The Beauty of a Man*—for which she received the T. S. Eliot Prize in 2001—and a book published in 2024

Last year’s laureate was the Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai. The award ceremony will take place on December 10 in Stockholm.
