The agency specified that the action took place in the waters of the Indian Ocean in the Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility. The military inspected and took control of the vessel, which is subject to sanctions restrictions.
The vessel in question is the M/T Majestic X, which, according to the U.S. side, was transporting oil from Iran.
The U.S. stressed that such operations will continue in the future.
The American side intends to strengthen control in international waters to prevent the activities of illegal networks and to stop transportation that may support Iran.
It is also noted that international waters should not be used as a shelter to circumvent sanctions.
The Pentagon said it intends to continue to limit the ability of vessels involved in such schemes and not allow their free movement in the maritime space.
