Putin Commented For The First Time On Internet Restrictions In Russian Federation

The statement came amid declining confidence in the Kremlin leader.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said that Internet outages in Russian cities may be related to security measures and countering terrorist threats.

According to him, such outages are allegedly infrequent, but possible even in "major metropolitan areas" and are related to the work of law enforcement agencies.

"When operational work is underway to prevent criminal acts, in particular terrorist attacks, broad public information in advance can harm operational development, because criminals hear and see everything," he said.

Putin also said that in solving the problem with the lack of communication among Russians, he relies on law enforcement agencies, which should act more "professionally" and "resourcefully."

The statement was made against the backdrop of declining confidence in the Kremlin leader. According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, the drop is linked to restrictions on access to social networks, particularly Telegram, which have drawn criticism even among pro-Kremlin propagandists and war correspondents.
