"Putin Has Virtually No Options Left."
Volodymyr Ogryzko

The Kremlin faces a new challenge over the war.

The Russian leadership is facing a difficult choice due to the protracted war against Ukraine and the deteriorating economic situation. The Kremlin has fewer and fewer opportunities to continue fighting without serious consequences for the state.

At the same time, the international situation is also not playing in Russia's favor. In an exclusive interview for OBOZ.UA, former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ogryzko told about it.

He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has virtually no options left to continue the war without critical losses.

He said that Russia is again discussing the possibility of mobilizing 300,000 people, but the implementation of such a scenario is extremely problematic from a financial point of view.

"To prepare a single If you multiply 300,000 by 56,000, you get a very significant amount. And Russia simply does not have this money now," the expert explained.

The diplomat stressed that the new wave of mobilization will have not only direct budgetary costs, but also serious economic consequences.

"That is, going this way means putting the Russian economy in a stupor. After all, these are 300,000 men who work somewhere. These are not just marginalized or alcoholics. These are people who will have to be taken out of the economy. And if you add direct costs to economic losses, you get an astronomical amount that Russia simply does not have," Ogryzko said.

He also drew attention to the growing capabilities of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and the deterioration of Russia's international position.

"The Ukrainian Defense Forces are increasing their capabilities on a daily basis. And it is already becoming obvious that there will be nowhere to hide," the diplomat said.

He added that the foreign policy situation is also not in favor of the Kremlin.

"So the prospect looks like this: either the war stops now, or the Russian economy will be virtually destroyed. And the international situation is also not shaping up in the Kremlin's favor. Trump can't help, Europe doesn't want to give in, Ukraine is pressing. So where to go?" - Ogryzko said.

At the same time, Ogryzko believes that now Putin still has some chances to end the war with relatively acceptable consequences for himself.

"Therefore, the trend towards the end of the war looks obvious. And so far there are still some chances for Putin that this ending will be at least relatively acceptable to him. But it may happen that the consequences will be absolutely unacceptable. Therefore, the longer he clings to the current line, the worse the consequences will be," he summarized.
