Drones Hit Astrakhan GPP, Disrupting Explosives Production In Russia

There's a fire raging.

On the night of May 13, Ukrainian long-range UAVs struck a strategic facility in Russia's Astrakhan region. The Astrakhan gas processing plant (GPP) came under attack, writes Dialog.UA, having analyzed social networks.

The governor of the Astrakhan region, Igor Babushkin, admitted that drones hit the Astrakhan GPP on May 13. He said Russian air defense allegedly shot down and suppressed all Ukrainian UAVs, but "the wreckage of the drones caused a fire." The Russian Emergencies Ministry claims that "the burning will be eliminated within a few hours."

Gazprom, which owns the AGPZ, has not commented on the situation with this strategic facility at the time of writing this news.

The Russian Defense Ministry's summary says that on the night of May 13, Russian air defense in the skies above Russia allegedly shot down 286 Ukrainian UAVs, including over the Astrakhan region.

The Astrakhan gas processing plant produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil and gas sulfur, making it a legitimate target for the AFU (sulfur is used to produce explosives). It is Russia's largest producer of gas sulfur. Up to 3.5 million tons of sulfur are made there annually.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have previously attacked the gas processing plant in Astrakhan, for example, on the night of February 3 and on the night of December 15, 2025. After the strikes on December 15, a heavy fire was recorded on the territory of the plant, which was confirmed by the AFU General Staff.
