Estonia Urged Europe To Abandon Negotiations With Russian Federation

Putin is in a vulnerable position.
European countries should not engage in direct negotiations with the Kremlin, as Russia is now in a vulnerable position. Instead of finding compromises, allies should increase sanctions pressure. This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, Bloomberg reported.
According to the Estonian foreign minister, the intensification of Moscow's contacts with European states is linked to growing economic difficulties and Russia's lack of serious successes on the frontline in the fifth year of a full-scale war.
Tsahkna believes that the Kremlin is trying to find an opportunity for maneuver, and therefore the West's response should be not to soften its stance, but to further strengthen restrictive measures.
"Now is not the time for talks and negotiations. Now is the time to increase pressure on Russia," he stressed during the Lennart Meri conference in Tallinn.
The minister also criticized the desire of some European leaders to seize the diplomatic initiative against the backdrop of declining U.S. activity in the conflict settlement.
In his opinion, attempts to urgently resume dialogue with Moscow could be a mistake.
"We are skeptical of the idea that we should rush to Moscow and start negotiations just because Russia has weakened. This is not the time for that," the diplomat said.
Tsahkna also said that Vladimir Putin's capabilities are gradually being exhausted and Western sanctions are putting tangible pressure on the Russian economy.
In addition, he pointed to Russia's serious losses on the battlefield, as well as Ukraine's successful strikes on oil infrastructure and logistics facilities deep inside Russian territory.
