Britain's prime minister is ready to quit.

Britain's Prime Minister Kir Starmer has told his close friends that he intends to step down as prime minister and set out his timetable for leaving.

The Daily Mail reports that.

"Keir understands the political reality. He understands that the current chaos is unsustainable. He just wants to do the decent thing and such as he sees fit. He will draw up a timetable," the author of the piece said, citing a member of the government.

Another source said it is still unclear when exactly the announcement will be made. Meanwhile, some of Starmer's senior associates are urging him to refrain from making any announcements until the first poll results and vote count data from the Makerfield by-election are available.

"Morgan McSweeney (former chief of staff to the prime minister) is constantly urging him to hang in there. He claims that if the fight is tight or if Andy is on the brink of defeat, he still has a chance," a minister said.

But one of Starmer's supporters said he was not going to risk waiting for the results of a by-election.
