What is known.
Belarus plans to launch the Russian analog of the Starlink system within the framework of cooperation between the Russian aerospace company Bureau 1440 and the Belarusian national satellite operator Belintersat, the Office Life edition writes.
The parties signed an agreement on cooperation, which is seen as the first step to the expansion of international projects in the field of telecommunications. The Russian side notes that this is the beginning of entering foreign markets and developing cooperation with telecom operators in other countries.
The Belarusian Belintersat emphasizes that the project should help reduce the digital divide between regions and give an impetus to the development of communications in remote areas. It is also seen as a step towards import substitution and increasing technological independence in critical infrastructure.
The system being developed by Bureau 1440 is a low-orbit satellite network. It is conceived as an analog of the American Starlink and should provide high-speed broadband Internet with global coverage. It is planned to use a constellation of hundreds of satellites that can provide high data transfer speeds - up to a level of about 1 Gbps.
But so far, all this is only in the plans, as even Russia itself has not been able to fully replace Starlink with its analog after it was blocked from using this system pirate-style on the Ukrainian front.
The Starlink itself, which belongs to Ilon Musk's company SpaceX, does not work in Belarus, so alternative solutions are seen as an important technological direction. As early as 2024, plans to create a similar system for the needs of the Armed Forces of Belarus were discussed.
