Reuters: A Second Wave Of Fuel Shortages Has Begun In Russia

Some gas stations in the Moscow Region are out of gasoline.

In August, several regions of the Russian Federation faced a new wave of the fuel crisis. This was reported by Reuters.

On August 17, the agency’s correspondents noted that some gas stations in the Moscow Region were once again out of gasoline, although diesel fuel was available at nearly all stations.

The fuel shortage in Russia in July was caused by Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, combined with a seasonal increase in demand. By the end of July, the situation had stabilized, but not for long, as Ukraine is once again attacking oil refineries.

On August 14, the Russian government stated that the situation with fuel supplies to gas stations “remains difficult” in a number of regions. The agency noted that at that time, representatives of the energy sector discussed the fuel supply situation in several regions, specifically in the Orenburg, Lipetsk, and Tver regions, the Krasnodar, Transbaikal, Primorsky, and Krasnoyarsk Territories, the Oryol Region, Tuva, and Khakassia.

As of the end of July, Ukraine’s campaign of long-range drone strikes against Russian oil refineries had put more than 30% of Russia’s actual and 45% of its nominal oil refining capacity out of commission. On July 30, the Russian government decided to extend the current ban on gasoline and diesel exports for another six months.
