A red alert level was declared for Vilnius.
Lithuania's top officials have been instructed to descend to a civil defense shelter due to an air alert for Vilnius - due to the risk of attack drones in the country's airspace.
It was reported by LRT.
President Gitanas Nauseda's adviser Frederikas Jansonas confirmed that the president and his office staff had been sent into hiding.
Analogous order was sounded in Lithuania's Seimas. Loudspeakers announced that due to the air threat, all those present in the building were asked to go down to shelter.
A spokesman for the prime minister said that Inga Ruginenė had also gone to shelter.
Shortly before that, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry announced an air threat over part of the country's territory - due to the fixation of a drone near Lithuanian airspace by Belarus. It was reported about the beginning of the NATO operation to patrol the airspace over the Baltic region.
A red alert level was announced for the capital of Lithuania Vilnius and citizens were advised to go down to shelter before going to bed.
It is not clear from the official announcements whether the said device has crossed the border of the country and where it is.
Police noted that this was an incident similar to those recently observed in Latvia and Estonia, and it is standard security procedure to warn citizens in such a situation.
Shortly before this news was published, at approximately 10:50 a.m., an air alert was announced to be lifted.
