The U.S. president said Washington wants to help Havana.
The US Navy strike group led by the aircraft carrier Nimitz has not arrived in the Caribbean Sea to intimidate Cuban authorities, US President Donald Trump has said.
The head of state assured that Washington wants to help Havana on a humanitarian basis, and added that the US wants to open Cuba to Cuban emigrants on American territory. Why they cannot come to the island now, he did not explain.
On May 21, the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) reported that the U.S. Navy's aircraft carrier strike group has entered the Caribbean Sea. It includes a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, a Gridley-class destroyer and a Patuxent-class support vessel.
Before that, Trump said Cuba could be the "next" U.S. target. He said Washington intends to tackle the island after other foreign policy objectives, and the change of power in the country needs to be accelerated. In another speech, the US politician allowed a harsher formulation, saying it would be an "honor" for him to take over the island.
