Tulsi Gabbard will step down on June 30.
The first deputy director of U.S. National Intelligence, Aaron Lucas, will become acting head of the agency, President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social.
Trump noted that the current head of the National Intelligence Agency, Tulsi Gabbard, will leave the post on June 30. Her husband has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and she has decided to resign, the president explained.
Earlier today, Donald Trump received Tulsi Gabbard in the Oval Office. During the meeting, she tendered her resignation. According to a Reuters source familiar with the situation, the president's administration forced Gabbard to resign.
Tulsi Gabbard took over as head of the National Intelligence Agency in February 2025. Aaron Lucas became the first deputy head of the National Intelligence Agency in July of that year. He is 55 years old. He spent more than 20 years in the CIA: he started as an analyst, then became a covert operations officer, and rose to the position of station chief overseas (in charge of operations in the host country).
