Janez Janša named the main directions of his premiership.
SDS party chairman Janez Janša has become Slovenia's prime minister - he was elected at a session of the Slovenian State Assembly with a significant majority of votes, which will allow him to form a government according to his priorities, Interfax-Ukraine reported on May 22.
At the time of the secret ballot, 87 ballots were cast. None of them was recognized as invalid. 51 deputies voted in favor and 36 against, making SDS party chairman Janez Janša a mandate holder to form the government at the State Assembly session, local media reported.
Since the vote was secret, the results by faction are unknown. However, Jansch's candidacy was supported in advance by deputies from SDS, NSi, SLS, Focus and the Democrats, who also signed a coalition agreement on Thursday, as well as deputies from the Pravda party, which, however, will not be part of the government.
Jansch calls economic development, the fight against corruption, decentralization and de-bureaucratization the main areas of his premiership. In his speech to MPs, he expressed support for Slovenia's membership in the European Union and NATO, but also allowed himself a few Eurosceptic remarks.
At the same time, he spoke in favor of a militarily strong Europe that should "demonstrate real strength and use it in case of threats." EU enlargement is also a strategic goal. "If the space of the world does not expand, someone else expands. There is no vacuum," said the conservative politician, who during his last term as prime minister showed himself as a strong supporter of Ukraine.
