The fire spread to railcars and damaged buildings and cars.

A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives near a passenger train in the Pakistani city of Quetta. The incident left at least 24 people dead and more than 70 injured.

According to the newspaper Independent. The blast caused fire to spread to two cars, several neighboring buildings were badly damaged and more than a dozen parked cars were destroyed.

The Baloch Liberation Army terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted a train carrying Pakistani intelligence officials.

The attack took place in an area where Pakistan's intelligence agencies are usually stationed. Three security officials told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity that several law enforcers were killed.

"We strongly condemn the attacks on civilians and are deeply saddened by the loss of precious human lives. Terrorist elements deserve no leniency," said Balochistan provincial government spokesman Shahid Rind.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said the militants were allegedly backed by India. New Delhi denies the allegations.

The publication notes that Quetta is rich in oil and minerals, and is also where much of the anti-government unrest takes place. Militants in the area have frequently attacked the country's security forces, government offices and civilians.
