There is one important nuance.
The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, has authorized participants in the war against Ukraine and their families not to repay overdue loans. However, to get into this category, there is one important nuance.
This is reported by The Moscow Times.
The publication writes that Putin signed a decree that exempts participants in the so-called "SWO" and their family members from having to repay overdue loans.
But the document applies only to those who decided to sign a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry only from May 1, 2026 and for a period of at least one year. In addition, the debts of such "military" and their spouses should not exceed 10 million rubles.
Another nuance is that write-off will be possible only for those loans that were taken before the contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as in the presence of an already effective court decision on debt collection, or the issuance or filing of an enforcement act.
What came before
The Moscow Times notes that the first time Putin allowed Russian occupiers and their families not to repay overdue loans was in November 2024. At that time, the decree was valid provided the loan was taken out before December 1 of the same year.
"If a serviceman dies at the front or due to a maiming, wounding, injury or contusion, or if he receives a Group I disability, all loan obligations of his family members are subject to termination - regardless of when exactly he was drafted or signed a contract," the publication added.
