The U.S., British and Australian defense departments will continue to develop advanced underwater drones under the AUKUS agreement, the three agencies said in a joint statement. The new vehicles could enter service with the armies of the countries as early as 2027.

The work is carried out within the framework of the so-called "second pillar" AUKUS. This part of the agreement involves the development of advanced defense technologies, including quantum, underwater and hypersonic technologies, as well as artificial intelligence and cyber technologies.

According to U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, the countries will develop a suite of highly adaptive, multi-purpose underwater drones designed to support underwater operations.
