Occupiers want to confuse Ukrainian drones with AI.
Russian military equipment painted in gray-white stripes - "under zebra" - has appeared on the frontline in Ukraine. According to the z-channel "Military Informant", such camouflage is used to prevent Ukrainian drones with artificial intelligence from identifying targets for attacks. "It is unlikely that these attempts at silhouette breaking will have an impact on current AI algorithms in kamikaze drones, but only practice will reliably show," the publick notes.
The z-blogger Kirill Fedorov also doubts the effectiveness of the new coloration. From his point of view, if the drone will be controlled manually, it is useless to camouflage the technique in this way. In turn, the z-channel "Two Majors" wrote that "such a solution can only help if the Kamaz is driving in a herd of zebras." According to his data, an experiment with neural networks Perplexity, Gemini and Grok showed that this camouflage does not work: they "'head-on' click this task, not just without problems identifying the truck, but also the fact of using camouflage". Even the "more primitive", according to the authors, machine vision of the American Hornet drone used by the Ukrainians does not create problems with the identification of "zebrovozovoz", "given the technical equipment of the barrage munition".
Similar camouflage was used by Great Britain to protect warships during the First World War. It was called "blinding," but it did not camouflage but prevented the ship from being recognized, its size and shape. This was done to prevent the enemy from hitting vital parts of the hull. However, such ships were still hit by torpedoes, moreover, they were more visible, so they were attacked more often.
In late May, z-bloggers reported on the collapse of logistics of the Russian army in Ukraine because of drones. They stated that cheap drones flying up to 150 kilometers deep had made "the road to hell" the "land bridge" to Crimea - the federal highway R-280 "Novorossiya", where cargo traffic has been restricted since May 21. "Close to critical" was also called the situation in Donetsk, where in recent months the AFU has been "densely" hitting thermal power plants, warehouses and troop locations.
The strikes on logistics have even reached the shores of the Sea of Azov. According to calculations of the OSINT-project "Oko Gora", more than 60 trucks were burned on the M-14 and H20 highways only for three weeks of May. In Kherson and Zaporizhzhya, "the situation is becoming more and more threatening," as logistics have already been "partially paralyzed," Rybar admitted: as a result, in Crimea, "there was a threat of shortages of some goods" and restrictions were imposed on fuel sales.
