On interceptor drones.

The U.S. State Department has approved the sale of $1.98 billion worth of drones and counter-UAV equipment to Kuwait. This deal marks the world’s largest-ever purchase of interceptor drones.

This was reported by Drone Front.

It is noted that the package includes solutions designed to detect and neutralize threats using both electronic and kinetic methods.

The list of approved equipment includes, in particular, the Roadrunner and Anvil interceptors, launch systems, command software, long-range and maritime surveillance towers, electronic warfare solutions, and mobile operations centers.

What is known about the Roadrunner and Anvil interceptor drones

The proposed package calls for the use of Anduril’s Roadrunner and Anvil platforms, which are designed for rapid ground launch and engagement of aerial targets.

Both systems use vertical takeoff and landing, while maintaining different architectures for different missions.

Roadrunner is an interceptor with two turbojet engines; it has a fuselage approximately 2 meters long and can reach subsonic speeds of about 1,235 km/h.

It typically uses a high-explosive warhead to neutralize drones and larger aerial threats, including manned aircraft and cruise missiles.

The Anvil is a smaller drone capable of speeds up to 320 km/h. It is designed to intercept drones at close range using a kinetic strike, offering a less costly option for neutralization.
