Orbán Was Re-elected As Chairman Of The Fidesz Party
Viktor Orbán

Hungary's former prime minister has taken responsibility for the election defeat.

Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has once again taken the helm of the formerly ruling Fidesz party, despite its defeat in the April 2026 parliamentary elections.

According to Telex, 729 delegates supported Orbán’s candidacy at the party congress in Budapest, while eight other voters abstained.

After his re-election, the politician thanked his party colleagues for their trust and stated that he has no intention of giving up. According to him, although Fidesz is currently going through a difficult period, the party must recover and renew itself in the coming months.

Speaking to the delegates, Orbán acknowledged that he bears strategic responsibility for the election defeat. At the same time, he emphasized that he intends to hand the party over to the younger generation in a state that will allow it to fight for victory again.

“I won’t sell out, and you won’t buy me like a pig in a poke. You know I have no desire to change. I will not settle for half-measures or make a complete about-face,” Orbán declared, stressing that he has no intention of changing his political principles.
