What makes this design unique is its complete resistance to electronic warfare.
A unique missile called DART has been developed in Ukraine, which is launched directly from stratospheric balloons. The key feature of this design is its complete resistance to enemy electronic warfare systems.
This was reported by the "Military" portal.
Engineers at the Center of Innovative Technologies Program have developed an air-launch system. The missile is lifted into the sky by special balloons, and launches take place at high altitudes: ranging from 12 to 18 kilometers.
Special servo drives ensure precise activation. They maintain a stable flight path. The system operates reliably under any launch conditions.
What are the features of the DART missile
The DART missile is compact: its body is 1.84 meters long. At the same time, the rocket’s empty weight is only 13 kilograms.
The weight of the warhead depends on the specific mission. It ranges from 3.5 to 10 kilograms, and the warhead contains special graphite projectiles.
DART’s greatest advantage is its immunity to electronic warfare. The developers employed a clever control algorithm: initially, the missile uses a navigation system, but at a certain point along its trajectory, everything changes. When the missile descends to an altitude of about 6 kilometers, the navigation system shuts down.
At this point, the solid-fuel engine activates, and DART continues toward its target without any course corrections. Since the electronic signal-receiving systems are not operational, enemy jammers cannot affect it. The missile becomes physically out of reach of electronic warfare.
Plans for the Future
The project is the result of a partnership: the airships themselves are manufactured by colleagues at the developer company. The weapon is currently being prepared for official recognition.
In the near future, DART will undergo the codification process at the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. This will pave the way for a government contract.
The company plans to develop a full-fledged ballistic missile. The developers are also working on a surface-to-air version to defend the airspace.
More on the latest developments in the Ukrainian defense industry
The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed the development of a powerful ballistic weapon to strike at the rear of the Russian occupiers.
“Ukrainian ballistics will change everything in this war. It will fundamentally change Ukraine’s status in the world. We’ve changed it many times before, but this is in a whole different league,” he said.
