Ukraine Attacked One Of The Largest Ports In Southern Russia

On the night of July 30, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Black Sea port of Taman in the Krasnodar Krai—one of the largest in southern Russia, according to the Transport Prosecutor’s Office. The port’s infrastructure sustained damage, and there are also casualties, the office specified.
The Kuban Operational Headquarters reported a fire caused by “UAV debris” falling on the grounds of a facility in the village of Volna in the Temryuk District—where the Tamani port’s petroleum products and dry cargo terminals are located. Four people were injured, three of whom required hospitalization, the Operational Headquarters clarified, as noted by the website The Moscow Times.
NASA Firms detected fires at the port of Taman and at the large private offshore oil loading terminal “Tamanneftegaz,” which is operated by the OTECO Group. The latter has a capacity of about 20 million metric tons per year, and its tank farm has a total volume of 640,000 cubic meters. There are also reports of a fire at facilities belonging to EFKO Food Ingredients, a company that produces oil and fat products and uses the port terminal to export finished goods and import raw materials.
The Port of Taman is one of the key transportation hubs in southern Russia, located in the ice-free waters of the Kerch Strait. Petroleum products, liquefied petroleum gas, coal, sulfur, grain, vegetable oils, and mineral fertilizers are exported through the port. The port’s total capacity exceeds 90 million metric tons per year, and it ranks second in cargo turnover in the Azov-Black Sea basin after Novorossiysk.
