Belarusians were outraged by an art installation honoring the “Year of Women.”

"Treds" is discussing the art installation "In the Name of Women in Belarus," which officials unveiled with great fanfare in Soligorsk, according to "Solidarnast".

A report by the local STK channel states that “this unique art installation has a diameter of nearly two and a half meters.” It is reported that “its creators are confident: it will become a place imbued with special meaning—a symbol of respect for women, their creative power, the beauty of their souls, and their inexhaustible energy, thanks to which families grow, society strengthens, and Belarus prospers.”

“It’s just awful—why hold such a grand unveiling? It’s just a tasteless, low-quality garden sculpture, not a work of art.”

“At least it’s not made of black marble, like in some other city. They’ve unveiled a tombstone for a Belarusian woman.”

Belarusian women write:

Get maternity hospitals in order and eliminate all unnecessary interventions, obstetric aggression, and the like during childbirth—real actions for women in the Year of the Belarusian Woman, not art installations.

Some believe the authorities would be better off spending the money on cervical cancer vaccinations.

“Can we find out how much they squandered on this ‘masterpiece’? They’d be better off spending that money on treating yet another child!” — one of the most popular comments.

“While they’re erecting monuments to us, couldn’t they instead focus on child support debtors who hide their actual income?” — suggested another participant in the discussion.
