"Is This Agony?": A Belarusian Has Accurately Diagnosed The System

Interesting observations by a resident of the capital.

Threads user asaikowski shared his thoughts on the news from Belarus, according to Charter 97.org.

“I’m watching the video and feeling happy for my beloved Minsk,” he writes. — The new neighborhoods and the improved city center are impressive. But at the same time, I realize that industry and agriculture are dying. MTZ and MAZ, “Gomselmash” and “Horizont.” “Atlant” and “Motornoy,” along with “Shariki,” are on their last legs. The bicycle factory was shut down long ago. Livestock numbers have plummeted.
It turns out that in exchange for the industrial base, people received living space. Isn’t this a tragic end? How—and on what basis—will the country survive going forward?”
The demographic situation is even bleaker, the author of the post adds in one of the comments.
“According to some sources, fewer than 9 million people live in the country,” he writes. “And the most daring estimates put the figure at just over 7 million. There are very few people between the ages of 30 and 50 on the streets and in public places. Maybe they’re all getting around by car?”
