A Fire Broke Out At Slovakia's Largest Ammunition Factory

The company manufactures shells that are supplied to Ukraine.

A fire broke out at the ZVS Holding plant in the town of Snina, Slovakia; the plant is part of the Czechoslovak Group (CSG). This facility manufactures various types of ammunition, according to the Slovak publication Novinky.

The fire at the ZVS Holding plant broke out on Wednesday, September 16. The Snina municipal administration urged residents to stay away from the scene and to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary. All employees were evacuated; no one was injured. The fire was contained after approximately two hours.

According to preliminary information, the fire started on the roof of a workshop during repair work being carried out by an outside contractor. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident. The cause of the fire is being determined. No official conclusions have been reached yet.

ZVS Holding is the largest manufacturer of ammunition in Slovakia. Bratislava supplies ammunition and shells to Ukraine on a commercial basis. In 2026, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that the volume of ammunition deliveries to Kyiv would increase.

In late 2025, ZVS Holding signed a framework agreement with the Slovak Ministry of Defense to supply ammunition worth 58 billion euros over seven years. Other countries also purchase the company’s products for Ukraine.
