Secretary Of State: Putin Will Not Be Able To Win The War Against Ukraine

The war in Ukraine will not end in a Russian victory, as the Russian army is faring poorly on the battlefield, said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “This war is harmful to both sides. It’s clear that it’s harming Ukraine and is devastating for Russia. So it makes perfect sense to stop it. But, unfortunately, in foreign policy and in such matters, what makes sense doesn’t always happen,” Rubio said in an interview with the radio station WABC.

According to him, the hostilities will ultimately end through negotiations. “And the sooner that happens, the fewer people will die and the less destruction there will be,” Rubio emphasized. He assured that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will continue to try to resolve the differences between Ukraine and Russia, but acknowledged that, as of today, Moscow and Kyiv are far from reaching a peace agreement. The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with U.S. President Trump in New York. At the meeting, the White House leader spoke of the prospects for a “deal” between Russia and Ukraine. “I don’t want to say exactly what it will entail. We’re discussing this a lot, including with President Putin,” Trump said, adding that “the time has come” to end the war.

Zelenskyy, for his part, said that Kyiv and Washington want to end the “senseless Russian war” before the coming winter. “We discussed possible de-escalation steps that could pave the way for diplomacy,” the Ukrainian president noted.


Zelenskyy also said that the U.S. would convey a proposal for an energy truce to Russia. “We are ready to stop strikes on their oil refineries and energy infrastructure if they stop striking ours,” Zelenskyy said. He also expressed hope that the U.S. would find a way to bring about negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
