In Paris, Hundreds Of Thousands Of People Attended The Pope's Open-air Mass

Pope Leo XIV's four-day visit to France caused quite a stir.

On Saturday, September 26, thousands of people began gathering on the Champs-Élysées in Paris ahead of an open-air Mass featuring Pope Leo XIV, which is set to be the highlight of his four-day visit to France, according to Reuters.

As noted, more than 600,000 people have registered for the event. People, including parents with young children, began heading toward the boulevard even before dawn.

The Mass is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. local time. On the eve of the event, police closed off the surrounding streets along which Pope Leo was scheduled to travel in an open popemobile.

The pontiff is in France on a four-day visit, during which he will visit three cities. One of the goals of the trip is to restore trust in the Catholic Church following scandals involving sexual abuse by clergy, which have caused a significant public outcry in the country.

It was previously reported that this is the Pope’s first official visit to France in 18 years.
