Madonna And Taylor Swift Took Home The Top MTV Awards

The ceremony in Los Angeles was once again significantly influenced by women.

Madonna and Taylor Swift were the stars of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. During the televised broadcast, they won four of the six major awards of the evening, according to The Guardian.

Madonna, 68, entered the ceremony with 13 nominations and ultimately won seven awards. Three of them were presented during the show—for Best Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter, Best Dance Video, and Artist of the Year.

The singer also performed at the VMAs for the first time in 23 years. “Most of you probably weren’t even born when I performed at the very first VMAs 43 years ago,” Madonna said as she accepted the award.

Taylor Swift won three awards, including the top prize—Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia.” She also became the first recipient of the new “Artist Director” award for her contribution to music video production.

Swift dedicated her win to Dolly Parton, who passed away last month. “We were all so happy to have shared the same planet with Dolly Parton for a while,” the singer said.

The ceremony in Los Angeles was once again marked by a strong female presence. K-pop star Lisa won the award for Best Pop Video, and British singer Sienna Spiro won in the Best New Artist category.

The honorary “Video Vanguard Award” was presented to Nirvana for the influence their music videos have had on culture.
