There Was No Fight Between A Russian And A Ukrainian: New Details About The Flight To Tel Aviv

A military official stated that, according to the preliminary investigation, the pilot appeared to have attempted to commit suicide along with the plane. It is not yet known whether this was motivated by psychological or nationalistic reasons.

Walla reported that there was no fight between a Russian and a Ukrainian on board. The assailant turned out to be a citizen of Oman, and the injured captain was a citizen of the UAE.

It is reported that, according to preliminary information, the co-pilot stabbed the pilot in an attempt to cause a plane crash and commit suicide.

There was an additional crew of pilot-passengers on board the aircraft. It was they who took control of the plane and made a safe landing.

What Happened Before

As a reminder, the Flydubai flight, traveling from Abu Dhabi to Tel Aviv, initially transmitted code 7700—the international distress signal. Shortly thereafter, the crew activated code 7500, used in cases of hijacking or unlawful interference with the flight.

After the signals were transmitted, Israeli Air Force fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the plane. The flight was diverted to Saudi Arabia, where it landed in the city of Tabuk.

Subsequently, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that during the flight, a had an argument that escalated into a fight. That is why the crew activated Code 7500.

Israeli media also reported that passengers heard shouting from the cockpit while the plane was in a nosedive.
