Justice Minisrty demands explanations from Communists

The Justice Ministry demands the Party of Communists of Belarus (PKB) additional explanations concerning changing of the party’s name.

BelaPAN agency was told about that by the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party of Communists of Belarus Valery Ukhnalyou.

A decision to rename the Party of Communists of Belarus was adopted as a result of voting at the second session of the 14th extraordinary congress of the party on October 25. On November 23 documents were submitted to the Justice Ministry to rename the party to Belarusian United Left Party "Fair World".

As said by Ukhnalyou, the Justice Ministry asks explanations what had caused renaming of the party, why the word “Communist” is contain it its statute, and other details. “Besides, the Justice Ministry receives collective addresses of the party members who believe that the congress which passed the decision to change the name of the party, was held with violations. We know about these addresses. So it is no problem for us,” Ukhnalyou said.

O November 29 a plenary session of the Central Committee of the party was held, and the abovementioned issues were discussed there. “It was decided that we would give an answer to the Justice Ministry within the term prescribed by them, that is, by the end of this week,” Ukhnalyou said.

Besides, issues of the party’s participation in local elections were discussed at the plenary meeting. “According to the changes in the electoral law, we have received new possibilities. For instance, we do not have a party branch in Lahojsk officially, but we have a strong party branch of 100 Communists there. We haven’t been able to nominate candidates there before, as the branch was not registered because of the absence of the legal address. Now, if the “chamber of representatives” adopts amendments to the electoral laws, we would be able to nominate our representatives there as members of the election commission and as candidates for deputy,” Ukhnalyou said.
