German government must condemn repressions of Belarusian regime

2

Lukashenka’s Belarus is not ready for partnership with European Union, stated member of Bundestag Marieluise Beck.

Marieluise Beck, spokesperson of the Greens at the German Bundestag on eastern European affairs, states on repressions against oppositionists, human rights defenders and independent journalists.

«The dramatically deteriorating human rights situation in Belarus is a reason for great concerns. During the last days there is an accumulation of assaults and detentions at demonstrations and brutal crack down on independent journalists during searches and confiscations. Lastly Lukashenko’s police detained human rights defenders because of practicing their right for freedom of opinion by protesting against newest executions of death penalties. With this brutal proceeding against opposition and independent press the dictator proves that he is not interested in democratic changes.

The Federal Government is urged to sharply critisize the assaults against oppositionists and journalists. For the EU it’s high time to review critically the further participation of Belarus in the Eastern Partnership».
