Aleh Vouchak: “Belarusian secret services don’t know how real Belarusian army officer can behave”

The co-chairman of the organizing committee on creating the association of war veterans “Defenders of Motherland” commented on initiating a criminal case over comments on the charter97.org website.

Aleh Vouchak and another organizing committee co-chairman Alyaksandr Kamarouski are witnesses in the criminal case initiated by the General Prosecutor’s Office over comments of charter.97.org visitors to the article “Hunt in a manner of 1937”.

“The campaign against the mass media and Internet resources has started because the regime understood that independent media is a real fourth branch of government. Look how their activity has recently increased – they prepare new falsifications of the presidential elections. Lukashenka has decided to run for the fourth presidential term, he needs just to restrict Internet for this. Even Zhirinovsky noted that the discontent of the youth is growing. This is the youth who seek information on the Interment. However, another question worries me: who gives orders to prosecutors to open a case over comments to an article on the charter97.org website.

Another question is how a prosecutor could to start this case, he demonstrated his incompetency by this. I imagine how an investigator will suffer trying to find unknown bloggers. He will need to check computers of half of Belarus’s population. Or maybe it was made on purpose, in order to draw them away from investigating corruption crimes? In any case, this criminal case shows that prosecutors are unable to fight the lawfulness of the top officials,” Aleh Vouchak believes.

As the human rights activist think, the case is aimed at intimidating those Afghan war veterans who continue to struggle and work with Afghan common war veterans at the local level.

“The secret services understand they don’t know how real army officers and soldiers, who fought in Afghanistan, can behave in a tense situation, as it happened in Kyrgyzstan. So they try to neutralize us: sentence some peopel to huge prison terms like Mikalai Autukhovich or keep a bead of the new criminal case on others. Their mistake is that harassment and attempts to scare journalists and democratic activists are useless, people in mufti are not the first and the last who stand on our way of truth and justice,” Vouchak believes.
