“Strommashina” plant from Mahilyou hasn’t paid maternity leave allowance in January

Young mothers do not have money to feed their children.

A reader of charter97.org from Mahilyou Olesya Novikava told about the situation she faces now because of Strommashina plant from Mahilyou. The woman, who is a mother of two little children, and is on maternity leave, complains that one story is told on TV about the state’s care about mothers, while it’s quite a different story in reality.

“I do not know who else I could address, so I decided to address you… I am on maternity leave now. I have two children, 6 year old and 1 year old. The plant does not pay the allowance on time once again! It’s February 5 already, and many people receive allowance for February already, and we are still waiting for the money for January.

I called the Social Protection Fund. They wrote down my name, and said that I am the ninth representative of our plant with the same problem on that day. Now their phone is busy all the time, they have probably removed the phone receiver. I called the plant, and they say they have no money, all the accounts are blocked, no one knows when money are to be paid. What should I do?! If the plant has such problems, why couldn’t they pay money from the Social Protection Fund? What mothers should do, how can they make provision for their children? No one can answer us! They say either “we do not know”, or “call to another place”. I was redirected to other phone numbers seven times, and finally, the phone of the number one boss was not answering.

And it happens when Lukashenka delivers speeches saying that mothers on maternity leave are to be paid allowances for children until the age of 18. “Let’s take care of new mothers!” One thing is said on TV, while other things happen in reality. Well, why am I surprised? I should have got used to it!”

And the dollar and prices have grown so much over the month! As a result, I receive a much smaller allowance as I should receive under the law. Could you recommend what to do in such a situation? Moreover, it’s not the first time when such things happen, and I am absolutely sure, far from being the last time,” the viewer writes.

A journalist of charter97.org tried to find out from representatives of the plant, when Olesya and other women on maternity leave are going to receive their allowances, however, none of the phones was answering. The only representative of the administration who took the receiver was a deputy CEO for personnel, everyday life and social issues, Mikalai Yurau. He said that he had not been authorized to comment.

“Generally speaking, as far as I know, all allowances for women on maternity leave have been paid already. But you’d better call the deputy CEO for economy, I cannot comment on the situation!” he said.

After many attempts to reach the deputy CEO for economy Yury Iuleu, he finally answered, but he said to charter97.org/ journalist to ask… Mikalai Yurau for comment.

“The money for women on maternity leave has been paid, as far as I know. It was two hours ago. But I cannot comment on that, Yurau is responsible for that,” he said.
