European Broadcasting Union speaks about the initiative to remove BT from Eurovision.

Euroradio has received a response from the European Broadcasting Union regarding an initiative to exclude Belteleradiocompany from its members and deprive the broadcasting rights and participation in Eurovision.

"The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is closely following the plight of the media in Belarus and has publicly called on the BTRK as a member of the EBU to uphold our core values of independence and responsibility," we read in the letter mentioned above. "Freedom of the press is important for democracy, and the citizens of Belarus should have the opportunity to hear different views and opinions. As an organization, we strive to "promote and develop the concept of public media" and we continue to strive to uphold its value in Belarus."

The campaign to exclude Belteleradiocompany from the European Broadcasting Union this year was launched by the Belarusian Foundation for Cultural Solidarity. A letter has been sent to the EBU office in Geneva. The Belarusian Foundation for Cultural Solidarity says that the initiative's goal is not to deprive Belarus of Eurovision but to make sure that Belteleradiocompany has nothing to do with it.
