Polish Deserter, Who Fled To Belarus, Said He Had Beaten His Mother And Was Treated For Alcoholism

The deserter admitted truthfulness of the information about him, published in the Polish media.

Emil Chechko, Polish defector, who sought political asylum in Belarus, admitted that he had had problems with alcohol.

"The fact that I had problems related to my mother is true. The fact that I was treated for alcohol addiction is also true," he said in an interview with Belarusian propagandists, reports interfax.by.

On December 17, Belarusian border guards reported the crossing of a Polish soldier. Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that the soldier "had serious problems with the law".

According to unofficial reports, Emil Chechko was detained for driving drunk, had 1.5 ppm of alcohol in his blood and was under the influence of marijuana.

Onet believes that his legal problems were the catalyst for the decision to flee to Belarus. According to the newspaper, the soldier had connections in Belarus, and the border crossing could have been a planned operation of intelligence agencies.

The actions of the soldier are qualified under the article "Desertion" in Poland. He faces up to 10 years in jail.
