Sudan Will Hand over His Deposed Friend Lukashenka to the Hague Court

He is accused of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

The Sudanese authorities have agreed to transfer former dictator Omar al-Bashir to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, Mariam al-Mahdi, writes AFP.

“The Cabinet has decided to transfer the wanted officials to the International Criminal Court,” she said.

The ICC accuses al-Bashir of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Darfur. He has been on the wanted list since 2009 when the court issued a warrant for his arrest.

Let us remind you, while in power, Omar al-Bashir visited Minsk, where he met with Lukashenka. The Belarusian dictator was suspected of supplying weapons to Sudan.

What is the Darfur Conflict?

In 2003-2004, an ethnic conflict erupted between Arabs and black Africans in the Darfur region of Sudan. The Janjaweed groups, which were formed from local Arab nomads, took the side of the central government. They burned villages, raped women, robbed people, and carried out massacres.

A peace agreement between the parties to the conflict was signed in May 2006, but some armed clashes continued anyway. According to international organizations, at least 300 thousand people died during the clashes, more than 2 million became refugees.
