Lots Of Occupants Caught In Mousetrap: Ukrainian Special Forces Officer Speaks About Peculiarities Of Offensive On Kherson

The operation in the south is different from the counter-offensive in Kharkiv region.

A Ukrainian soldier, a fighter of the Special Operation Force, who carries out special missions, said that the offensives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kharkiv and Kherson regions are significantly different from each other. In the south the defenders cannot immediately take up defence because the distance between the villages is very small.

The fighter said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine. According to him, in the eastern direction, the Ukrainian military immediately took defensive positions when liberating the territory. However, on the southern front it is more difficult to do so.

"So, for example, compared to the east. There the guys who liberated the territory can immediately get into defensive positions. The situation is different in the Kherson direction. Here we have one village close to another, with a small distance of 2-2.5 kilometres between them. When we liberate these villages, the enemy starts to hit our positions with artillery," said the defender.

That is why, he said, the population, volunteers and journalists are banned from entering these villages.

"It is not safe. Fighting continues depending on the range of enemy artillery fire. Still, the situation is under our control," the defender said.

The soldier added that the army is now using all its forces to liberate Kherson region from the occupiers. He assured that the defenders will stand to the end.

"Now there is an offensive in the direction of Kherson, lots of occupants have been caught in the mousetrap. I will not say yet in which settlements in order for the operation to be successful," the fighter added.
