It is high time again to defend Belarus with weapons in hand.

On November 27, a rally on the anniversary of the Slutsk uprising was held in the centre of Warsaw, by the monument to Tadeush Kastsiushka. The rally was attended by about 100 Belarusians, who came to the event with Belarusian national white-red-white flags and portraits of Belarusian volunteers who died in Ukraine.

Viachaslau Siuchyk, organizer of the action, leader of the Razam movement, Vadzim Kabanchuk, deputy commander of Kastus Kalinouski regiment, priest Viachaslau Barok, head of the Belarusian Catholic community in Warsaw, Natallia Radzina, editor-in-chief of Charter97.org, Orthodox priest Viachaslau Kuchuk, Yauhen Dudkin, one of coordinators of the Belarusian Christian Democracy and others addressed the gathering.

Vadzim Kabanchuk, deputy commander of the regiment named after Kastus Kalinouski, stressed the importance of the memory of the heroes of the Slutsk uprising, who defended the freedom and independence of Belarus at the cost of their lives more than a hundred years ago. Today, he said, the situation is repeating: the Belarusians must once again defend their country from the dictatorship and occupation by Russian troops. Vadzim Kabanchuk is sure that the streets of free Belarus will soon be named after the volunteers, who were killed in Ukraine.

"Today we must do everything possible to protect our country. I am convinced that we will win!" said the regiment's deputy commander.

Natallia Radzina, editor-in-chief of Charter97.org, said that "we are all descendants of the Slutsk rebels, all those who have been fighting for freedom in Belarus for so many years".

"Our political prisoners, currently in jail, continue the legacy of the Slutsk rebels. All of them, even behind bars, resist the dictatorship with the strength of their spirit, the strength of their faith in a bright future of Belarus. By the way, the leader of the Belarusian opposition, unbending Mikalai Statkevich, who has spent in prison more than 10 years of his life under Lukashenka, is a hereditary nobleman of Slutsk region origin. All of them, including Pavel Seviarynets, Ales Bialiatski, Yauhen Afnahel, Maksim Viniarski, Palina Sharenda, Leanid Sudalenka, Ihar Alinevich, Mikalai Autukhovich and thousands of other heroes (we cannot even enumerate their names) are the elite of the new Belarus.

Our volunteers, who are fighting today in Ukraine, the regiment named after Kastus Kalinouski, are following in the footsteps of the Slutsk rebels. It is high time again to stand up for freedom and independence of Belarus, to take arms in our hands. Let us be honest with ourselves - there is no other way to change the situation in Belarus today. If we do not want to stay in prisons, if we are not willing to wander in other countries - we must fight for the freedom of our own land. And we have the right to defend our country with weapons in our hands. It is important to realize this, first of all, for Belarusian men. If for some reason you can't do it, you have to help those who can - the Kalinouski regiment, whose fighters are now defending Ukraine and are ready to do everything to liberate Belarus," said Natallia Radzina.

At the end of the rally, the organizers called upon those present to observe a moment of silence in memory of the Belarusian volunteers who died in Ukraine. The rally participants also sang the Belarusian anthems "Mighty God", "We Will Come Out In Tight Rows" and "Pahonia".
