According to Belarusian Telegram channels, Yury Varabiyeu, former commander of the 61st Fighter Air Base, stationed at the airfield in Baranavichy, committed suicide last week.

This was previously reported by the channel "Look, is it true?" and later the information was confirmed. Colonel Yury Varabiyeu, a native of the Russian Federation, was commander of the 61st airbase from 2007 to 2011.

He used to work at the 558th aircraft repair plant and was the chairman of the 61st Airbase Veterans Council. One version of the committed suicide was that the man's contract was not extended.

"The former commander of the 61st base shot himself, is buried today, surname Varabiyeu. He worked at an aircraft plant. They say that due to the fact that the contract was not renewed. He was a pensioner," Belarus Za MKADom.
