Lukashenka's In Rough Shape

Business leaders clearly understand the economy will outbreak and burn out really fast.

Lukashenka's complicity in Putin's war greatly increased the effect of the sanctions previously imposed against his regime. Ukraine traded with the regime till the last, and the loss of the Ukrainian market at the end of February caused a real collapse of enterprises. The petrochemical industry received the heaviest hit.

Not so long ago, the director of the industrial petrochemical giant Hrodna Azot, Ihar Liashenka, said that foreign companies refuse to cooperate with them. An example of this was the German company Chemieanlagenbau Chemnitz GmbH, which planned to cooperate on the reconstruction of the workshop.

At the same time, the director does not forget to mention the growth rate of exports. According to him, exports increased by 120.7%. Lyashenka does not say what kind of export has increased so much, and also how much it was in rubles. It is possible that increased demand for fertilizers for domestic sowing was associated with an increase in exports, because we were talking about the first quarter, and not about long-term contracts.

According to his logic, the plant sells fertilizers to the country's collective farms. Yes, at cost, but, nevertheless, there are sales. Therefore, such a mythical increase in the final balance of the year may again turn out to be negative relative to net profit. Just like in 2020, when for a whole year we were shouted about the growth of production and the economic prosperity of the enterprise, and at the end of the year the net loss amounted to 85 million rubles. It is worth noting that it was not just peacetime, but even large-scale sanctions were not imposed then.

At the same time, the net profit at the Minsk Tractor Works (MTW) decreased a hundredfold, and it is surprising. The MTW is one of the largest enterprises in our country, it significantly affects the gross domestic product, and Russia is its largest buyer. Is Putin really forcing Lukashenka to supply the plant's products, free of charge for his country?

Obviously, this scheme works in almost every enterprise and is a kind of "newspaper for Salazar". At the same time, business leaders clearly understand the "lukonomy" (the current economy - Ed.) will outbreak and burn out really fast. It's like a fire behind a closed door: everything inside burns out, and then a complete collapse of the structure follows.

Any mythical forecasts about productivity growth, import-substitution, and even more so the easing of sanctions, are just the dreams of the Lukashists, but they are unlikely to understand the cause of the economic disease and try to deal with the consequences. It seems that they are extinguishing the fire with kerosene. They just need to remember who caused the sanctions. Who has lost the global market? Who quarrelled with all the neighbours and became an international outcast? The answer is obvious.
