AFU's New Progress In Kharkiv Oblast: Front Line As Of September 16

Current battle maps have been published.

The Ukrainian military continues its steady counteroffensive in the Kharkiv Oblast, while the situation in the Kherson region is somewhat more difficult. On the other hand, heavy fierce fighting is taking place in Donbas.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Kharkiv region (Volchansk-Kupyansk-Izyum-Liman line)

According to the maps, the Ukrainian military continues its counteroffensive operations in eastern Ukraine, setting the stage for a deeper advance into the rear of Russians in eastern Kharkiv and somewhat western Luhansk oblast.

Ukrainian troops are believed to have knocked the enemy out of Sosnovy on the banks of the Seversky Donets and are strengthening their positions in the settlement, despite the enemy's attempts to entrench themselves in Liman. Analysts assume that the AFU might have knocked the Russians out of Studenok.

Ukrainian troops are reportedly advancing across the Oskol River in the north of the Kharkiv region.

At the same time, our fighters, according to ISW, are reinforcing positions in the village of Hryanikovka near the R79 highway.

Donbas

According to maps, Ukrainian forces have struck the enemy's rear in occupied Luhansk Oblast, including Lysychansk, Svetlodarsk, Perevalsk, and Kadievka, located along the main Russian logistics hubs.

The Russians continue shelling along the entire line of contact and have conducted limited ground attacks. Fighting for Spornoye (east of Seversk) and Mayorsk (south of Bakhmut) continues.

Analysts assess that although the Russians have claimed to have captured Maiorsk, ISW cannot confirm this. The Ukrainian General Staff also reported that Ukrainian forces repulsed Russian ground attacks on Maiorsk, southeast of Bakhmut, and southwest of Donetsk.

The Russians are trying to reinforce positions in Donbas. They are pulling in reserves from volunteer battalions of the 3rd Army Corps and remnants of units that previously operated in the Kharkiv Oblast to reinforce the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblast front lines.

Just as importantly, the Russian 137th Airborne Regiment (subordinate to the 106th Airborne Division) suffered significant combat losses in the Bakhmut region and can no longer continue fighting without additional unspecified measures (replenishment).

South

As noted by ISW analysts, the Ukrainian General Staff remains operationally silent on the progress of the southern counterattack, noting that Ukrainian forces continue to improve their tactical positions and take part in positional battles.

There is also no official confirmation yet that Ukrainian forces have liberated Kiselevka northwest of Kherson. Locals claim that the Russians are trying to mine all roads in the village.

In the south, the AFU continues to hold the offensive initiative. They are destroying enemy land lines of communication, occupier bases and ammunition depots along the banks of the Ingults and Dnipro River. So far, the Russians still manage to move equipment across the Dnipro River.

Experts suggest that Ukrainian forces may have attacked several enemy ammunition depots in the Mykolaiv and Kherson Oblasts during the day. In particular, in Sadovoye (near Snihirevka) and Kamyshany.

Analysts draw attention to the evacuation announced by the Ukrainian authorities, in particular, from Mirolyubivka (southeast of Vysokopol), which may indicate that the AFU has advanced to the populated area.

Three areas of military activity in the south are currently distinguished: northwest of Kherson, near the Ukrainian bridgehead across the Ingulets River, and south from the Kherson-Dnipropetrovsk Oblast border to the west of Vysokopolye.
