‘It Has Already Begun’: AFU Major Explained Counteroffensive Course

The rapid retreat of the occupiers and the liberation of territories is not the beginning of the counteroffensive, but the final stage.

The beginning of counteroffensive actions is the destruction of ammunition depots and concentrations of enemy forces. We have recently observed it in the occupied territory of Ukraine and in Russia. Oleksiy Hetman, a military expert and Reserve Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, told Channel 24 about this.

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mysteriously commented on the question of whether Ukraine launched a counteroffensive. "Definitely, there will be a counteroffensive," he said. However, Zelensky's mysterious smile after the answer suggested that the counteroffensive operation is already underway.

Oleksiy Hetman, Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, agrees with this opinion.

- The counteroffensive is already underway. You are to understand that a counteroffensive is not when someone on the radio broadcasts about the beginning and everyone rushes. Actions directly on land, when we see heavy equipment moving and infantry moving, this is not the beginning of a counteroffensive, this is its final stage,” Hetman emphasized.

According to him, a counteroffensive operation begins with the destruction of depots, fuel, and the like. It's already ongoing. An example of this is the recent "bang" in Sevastopol.

But the final stage of the counteroffensive is the escape of the enemy and the final liberation of the occupied territories.

"As for Zelensky's smile, I think it was from his heart. He simply could not hold it, because he is one of the 5 people who, as Mr. Danilov said, knows how everything will happen. This smile means that we have prepared something very interesting and not very pleasant for the Russians," suggested the AFU Reserve Major.

It should be noted that on April 10, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stressed that the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine keeps going every day and one should not expect any “magic dates”. The Ukrainian troops consistently destroy the Russian occupiers.

Against the backdrop of a “bang” in Sevastopol on April 29, Natalia Humeniuk, the Head of the United Coordinating Press Center of Security and Defence of South of Ukraine, noted that such fires would increase not only on the Crimean peninsula because this is one of the elements of preparation for the upcoming powerful actions of the Ukrainian forces.

It should also be noted that Volodymyr Zelensky, in an interview with foreign journalists, said that Ukraine would not wait for the transfer of F-16 fighter jets. The counteroffensive, he said, should begin earlier.
