Australia Imposes Sanctions On Senior Belarusian Military Officers

Who is on the list?

Australia has once again expanded sanctions against Belarus and Russia over the war in Ukraine.

"These measures have been taken in close consultation with our international partners to ensure maximum impact on those individuals and entities that play a direct or indirect role in supporting Russia's illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine," Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement.

Restrictive measures are imposed on 38 legal entities and 10 individuals. The latter include senior Belarusian military officers:

Vadzim Shadura, Major General, Chief of General Staff - First Deputy Commander of the North-West Operational Command,

Lieutenant-Colonel Aliaksandr Lazitski, commander of the military unit 65408 (Luninets airfield);

Colonel-General Aliaksandr Kryvets, Commander of the 116th airbase of the Guards;

Yury Pyzhik, Colonel, Commander of the 61st Fighter Air Base in Baranavichy.

The sanctions were also imposed on Russian Deputy Prime Ministers Andrei Belousov and Dmitry Chernyshenko, Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Turchak, CEO of Kalashnikov Vladimir Lepin, and CEO of Russian Helicopters Nikolai Kolesov.

The list of companies includes Atomflot, military-industrial complex enterprises, research institutes, helicopter manufacturers, and microelectronics suppliers.

In total, Australian sanctions have been imposed on more than 1,100 legal entities and individuals.
