Iran Hits US Bases And Consulate In Iraq And Syria With Ballistic Missiles

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed responsibility.

Iran has launched a missile attack on a US base, airport and consulate in Iraq.

Ballistic missile and kamikaze drone attacks hit the US airbase at Harir and Erbil International Airport.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attacks.

This was reported by a number of Arab media outlets. The network posted photos and video of the attack.

There are also reports of a rocket attack on the headquarters of the Mossad. The IRGC said it had attacked Israel's "spy headquarters" in the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in Iraq.

Reuters writes, quoting Iranian state media.

"Late this afternoon, ballistic missiles were used to destroy spy centres and gatherings of anti-Iran terrorist groups in the region," Iran's Revolutionary Guards said in a statement.

The Guards said they carried out the missile strikes near the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

The blasts hit about 40 kilometres north-east of Erbil in the Kurdistan region, close to the US consulate and civilian homes. Two civilians are known to have been killed and five wounded. They have been taken to a local hospital, sources told the publication. Flights have been halted at Erbil airport.

Arab media also reported that the US consulate in Erbili suffered significant damage after an Iranian missile strike, and published footage of the allegedly destroyed facility.

At the same time, US officials told Reuters that "no US facilities were damaged by the missile strikes in Erbili".

The Harir airbase, about 15 kilometres from Erbil, is known to be used by both US and Iraqi forces. The consequences of an attack on it are not yet known.

The IRGC also claimed responsibility for the attack on Syria, saying that "ISIS targets in Syria have been destroyed by ballistic missiles". However, there have been no official reports on the consequences of these strikes.
