What to do with an unwanted SIM card? For example, you have decided to change your phone number. Or you refuse to use the services of a mobile operator at all. Just throw the SIM card away? No, that won't work. Lawyer Andrei Misarov told AiF.

First of all, you have to remove the old number from financial and state Internet services, where it was previously registered, the lawyer said. And explained that the mobile operator will sell it in a few months after you stop using it.

It's also important to rule out the possibility that someone else could use it to access your personal accounts, warned Misarov. And reminded that in such cases there may still be money on the account of the former SIM card:

"And if you do not write a request to the operator to terminate the contract for its service, you will lose it. The operator will assume that you intend to keep this SIM card and will charge you for its maintenance until the account balance is zero".

Misarov also specified that minors can only associate a number with the participation of a parent (guardian, custodian).
