And wants to sign arms contracts.
According to Libyan media, Brigadier General Saddam Haftar, son of the commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalifa Haftar, arrived in Belarus three days ago.
‘Our sources: Saddam Haftar arrived in Belarus accompanied by Lieutenant General Muhammad Al-Manfour Al-Amin, commander of the Aviation College in the eastern region, two days ago. Saddam and Al-Manfour travelled to Belarus to negotiate arms deals and training for air force personnel,‘ reads the yesterday's Libyapress report.
Neither the press service of the Belarusian Defence Ministry nor Belarusian state media officially reported anything about the visit.
After the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, Haftar returned to Libya and headed the Libyan National Army, made up of remnants of Gaddafi's army, becoming one of the key players in the Libyan civil war. Today, his army controls most of Libya.
His son Saddam Haftar is considered his successor. In January 2023, Khalifa Haftar said he would refuse to run in Libya's presidential election if his sons Saddam and Belqasim were allowed to run. In May, Haftar appointed Saddam as chief of staff of the ground forces.
